I'm happy to finally share with you some of my texture work on The Book of Boba Fett, while I was still at ILM Vancouver.
Painting the Rancor was my last task in the VFX industry and certainly the highlight of my career in film.
The UVs for the main asset and the first texture pass was done by the legend texture artist Ben Neall, then I started working on the creature and began iterating on his look for months.
We had to do a 100% surface/texture match to the animatronic head that they had on set, and that was quite an interesting challenge, trying to get all the details in the right place. The rest of the body was all done in CG.
The model/sculpt was done by Masa Narita, and the lookdev work was done by John Walker - Two ILM legends with whom I had the honor to work with!
I had a BLAST with the whole asset team on his sequences, and I thought he stole the show along with Grogu in the end! I hope you guys enjoyed it as well!
