The Rancor - Behind The Scenes | Texture Work | The Book of Boba Fett

A couple of weeks ago, ILM shared a video with many behind the scenes of The Book of Boba Fett. They also shared a few shots with the Rancor which I had the pleasure to paint, including his walk cycle turntable! - More info here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Le8V0v

In these shots you can see the Boba Fett Digi Double I painted as well: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/DAB1zE

The UVs for the main asset and the first texture pass was done by Ben Neall, then I started working on the creature and began iterating on his look for months. The model/sculpt was done by Masa Narita, and the lookdev work was done by John Walker.

These turntables were shared publicly here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M74Jb8iggew

The Rancor & Boba Fett- Texture Wor

We had to do a 100% surface/texture match to the animatronic head that they had on set, and that was quite an interesting challenge, trying to get all the details in the right place. The rest of the body was all done in CG.
